Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then, she became a Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. 1981 was the year she began reporting on at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. Then, in 1992 she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel in the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of Ronald Reagan's presidency. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget and also the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively along with the president Reagan to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev.
